The Goliat van Gat Pumpkin Festival – an initiative of TLU SA – takes on a new form with even more competition and even other giant vegetables being judged, next year.

‘n Giant pumpkin weighing 564kg was crowned as the Pumpkin of the Year earlier this year. In 2020 there is a giant amount of up to R145 000 up for grabs for the heaviest pumpkin and smashing records.

“We have decided to adjust the format of the competition and festival for 2020 since it has become more popular every year,” says Mr Henri Combrink, the organiser. “The event takes place on March 7th at the Pretoria Farmers Market and will include a night market with various stands and a beer garden. It will be fun for the whole family.”

Anyone who wants to take part in the competition or would just like to attempt to grow giant vegetables, can buy seeds and more information from TLU SA’s head office in Silverton, Pretoria. It is the ideal time to plant the seeds now.
