Stakeholders could comment on the regulations, and TLU SA has proposed minor changes. TLU SA particularly emphasises that the guidelines must be implemented at the grassroots level and that SAPD members must receive proper training.<\/p>\n
“The regulations on livestock theft prevention have never been outlined as clearly as in this document,” says Danie Prins, the regional manager of TLU SA North. “Livestock theft not only has a major impact on agricultural operations but also has a direct, negative influence on food security as a whole.”<\/p>\n
Livestock theft has generally increased from 2021\/22 to 2022\/23. In Limpopo, reported cases have increased by 4,4%. However, the statistics do not reflect the cost of losses, which truly impacts agricultural operations and food security.<\/p>\n
