This year\u2019s TLU SA Young Farmer Conference will take place on 15 March 2024, once again at the iconic Voortrekker Monument. The theme of the conference is ‘Farming for the Future.’<\/p>\n
The conference provides young farmers in South Africa with the opportunity to socialise with fellow young farmers and learn from each other about possible ways to grow their farming operations. Common challenges that farmers face daily will be discussed. Speakers from various specialised fields will share their knowledge and motivate young farmers to take the next step in their farming journey. It is the perfect opportunity for young farmers to learn how to farm for the future.<\/p>\n
“Young farmers attending the conference can look forward to insightful discussions about the future of farming. Irmarie Taljaard from PIC will talk about selection technology for livestock. Christian Zimelka from Zedworks will engage with our young farmers on artificial intelligence, or AI as most of us know it, and its implications for the future of agriculture,” says Clemens Senekal, Chairman of the TLU SA Young Farmer Committee.<\/p>\n

Entries close on 21 June 2024, and farm visits will take place between the 15 – 19 July 2024. The winner, runner-up, and third place will be announced later this year at the annual TLU SA Congress.<\/p>\n “It’s always good to be able to measure yourself against other farmers. It’s good to learn, and a bit of healthy competition is a good thing,” said seed farmer Nicky van der Linde last year when he was appointed as the TLU SA’s Young Farmer of the Year 2023.<\/p>\n One of Van der Linde\u2019s prizes was the use of a double-cab 4×4 GWM pickup truck for a year, sponsored by the Hatfield Motor Group. “Its track stability capacity is excellent, it tows smoothly, your trailer stays stable behind the pickup, and its 4×4 capability surprised me a lot. The GWM pickup doesn’t hesitate in any tricky spots,” van der Linde says about his prize pickup.<\/p>\n Prizes for the 2024 winner, thanks to various sponsors, will be announced during the Young Farmer Conference on 15 March 2024.
