You can’t farm without healthy soil and water.

TLU SA celebrates World Soil Day 2023 and emphasises the importance of healthy soil and water for farmers.

TLU SA, an advocate for sustainable agriculture, is delighted to join the international community in celebrating World Soil Day 2023 on the 5th of December. This year’s theme, “Soil and Water, a Source of Life,” highlights the critical relationship between soil health and the well-being of our farming communities.

“Healthy soil is the foundation of sustainable farming. It provides essential nutrients to crops, supports biodiversity, and contributes to carbon capture from the atmosphere, which in turn helps mitigate climate change. On World Soil Day, TLU SA aims to underscore the indispensable role of healthy soil and water in ensuring the livelihoods and prosperity of farmers worldwide,” says Bennie van Zyl, TLU SA General Manager.

Farmers are at the forefront of our food production chain, and their success is deeply intertwined with the quality of their soil and access to clean water. Healthy soil promotes higher crop yields, reduces the need for synthetic fertilisers and pesticides, and enhances resilience to droughts and other environmental challenges. Furthermore, it is of utmost importance to protect water sources from pollution, thereby supporting agriculture and safeguarding the environment and public health.

TLU SA encourages individuals, businesses, and governments to support our farming communities. On this World Soil Day, we acknowledge the tireless efforts of farmers and we commit to preserving the invaluable worth of soil and water.

Join TLU SA in celebrating World Soil Day 2023, and together, let us embark on the journey towards a sustainable and prosperous future for farmers and consumers worldwide.
