Petition regarding tax benefits for private security expenses handed to parliament

TLU SA has recently submitted a petition to parliament so South Africans can receive a personal tax benefit for expenses incurred to secure themselves. With crime being an irreversible part of everyday life and the government’s absolute inability to prevent it, South Africans have no other way but to take over the work of the government and police.

“Businesses have long been able to claim such a tax benefit, but crime doesn’t only affect our businesses. It affects consumers, the people to whom our members provide food, and therefore it also affects TLU SA,” says Bennie van Zyl, general manager of TLU SA. “We can no longer wait for the government to combat crime because it won’t happen; the rising crime levels prove it to us. The crime situation is unbearable, and we cannot continue to pay double for our security indefinitely.”

TLU SA wants to generate enough pressure with this petition to convince the government that an adjustment should be made to the income tax law to ensure that people are safe on their own private property. A more stable crime situation will contribute to stabilising the economic situation in the country.

“We would like to thank the VF+ for submitting the petition to parliament on behalf of TLU SA, as determined by the parliamentary rules,” says Van Zyl.

According to Rule 349 of the National Assembly, the Speaker must now refer the petition for consideration to the relevant parliamentary committee. TLU SA will monitor the process.
