TAU SA sent letters to The ANC Secretary General, the Minister of Agriculture and the President in connection with the unrest in De Doorns and other Western Cape areas.
TAU SA asked the ANC’s secretary to take disciplinary action against Mr. Marius Fransman who said the farmers of the De Doorns region will “k*k” as this is seen as hate speech.
Pres. Zuma was informed about the fact that TAU SA is of the opinion that the problems in the Western Cape are more of a political nature, rather than a wages dispute. “We have evidence that people were bussed to the violence stricken areas, where they go on a rampage. We believe this is for political purposes to destabilize the province because the ANC is not the ruling party in that province. However all these people are dissatisfied because you and your government, as part of the ruling party, made promises of housing, service delivery and job creation. It is clear to South Africa that you could not meet those expectations set by the ANC and this results in frustration and anger. Your government are just onlookers to the immigration of people from neighbouring countries who take up the job opportunities of South African citizens.
“We suggest that you take a look at the bigger picture and that you will not be side tracked by arguments about minimum wages”, Mr. Louis Meintjes, President of TAU SA wrote to Mr Zuma.
The Minister of Agriculture said the unrest in the Western Cape was the result of poor service delivery. TAU SA is of the opinion that rising production costs is also a problem. Mr. Meintjes writes: “Agriculture cannot afford this and we demand the following:
* We demand compensation for damage caused by the political strike to the property of farmers and farm workers. The government must pay, and can reclaim the cost from the ANC and all the labour unions involved in the strike.
* We demand that the government protect farmers and farm workers and farm property from violent protesters.
* We demand that Government institute measures to protect farmers and farm workers from farm murders and farm attacks.
* We demand that all farmers be excluded from toll fees.
* We demand that Government take action in stopping pollution of water in order for us to produce save food and to support food security.
* We demand a lowering of ESKOM electricity tariffs.
* We demand roads without potholes.
* We demand an end to BEE.
* We demand better prices for all our produce.
TAU SA also offered its support and perhaps physical help to the farmers of the Western Cape, if needed.
TAU SA also recommends to its members that no farm workers in future will be housed on farms. “Workers have to reside in the suburbs local municipalities provide to minimize the risk on the farms,” says Mr Meintjes.
“It is crystal clear that government is loosing its capability to govern properly due to the revolutionary climate that is created by the ANC and the continuing of the National Democratic Revolution.”
