Bioskets: Dr. Philip Theunissen

Dr Phillip Theunissen has his own accounting firm in Bethlehem.  In addition to the acounting function for farms he also offers advice and consultations on estate planning and succession, farm management, mechanisation management, composite budgets, cash-flow budgets, agricultural economic comparisons and the interpretation of financial statements.

His involvement in the financial aspects is also reflected in his honnors degree postgraduate research which is titled “Investigating the obstacles in financing the beginner farmer” a master thesis titled: “The effectiveness of agricultural co-operatives in South Africa as a means for supplying production credit, and a doctoral thesis “Financial norms for diversified farming in the Eastern Freestate”.

As a freelance journalist he was published in major agricultural magazines and was named South African agricultural journalist of the year 1993.  His 2001 article “ When should a farmer call it quits?” was named best article in the SA Grain magazine.  He performed as guest speaker at agricultural events and participated on various radio and TV programes as a regular guest.
