The Quarterly Labour Force Survey by Statistics South Africa shows the potential labour force of South Africa increased by 8 million people in the past thirteen years. However, the number of employed people increased by only 500 000*.
South Africans can attribute these statistics to the ANC’s ineffective policies about each facet of government.
“The ANC makes no secret of the fact that they are striving towards socialism,” says Mr Henry Geldenhuys, the president of TLU SA. “It is part of their strategic NDR document. They use the words affirmative action and black economic empowerment to disguise their plan to make everyone – except for those in high positions – equal.”
Suppose you look at countries that implemented communism and socialism. The main objective is to make all citizens dependent on the state, whether from state employment or unemployment grants. The ANC’s route is evident when you consider our unemployment rate (extended definition) of 44,4%, the recent proposal of yet another grant – this time for all adults – and almost R2 trillion spent on state remuneration.
“The problem with the ANC’s plan is that socialism and communism never lead to economic prosperity in a country,” says Mr Geldenhuys. “It is also never sustainable. When everyone in a country is poor, that is not economic progress.”
TLU SA suggests the following solutions:
- Immediately stop all policies which go against the free market principles.
- Scratch all legislation that prohibits private ownership.
- Truly empower people by focussing on practical training and education to enter the job market on merit.
- Make it easier for employers like farmers – who show an increase in employment quarter after quarter (8,7% between April and June) – to employ and keep workers in jobs.
- Be resolute and firm against corruption.
TLU SA will continue to fight to keep farmers and all hardworking and honest South Africans safe and sustainable in our country.
