TLU SA presented the first ever Sunflower Award to Carien Kruger, a journalist whose work has exceptionally conveyed TLU SA’s core message – economic sustainability in agriculture – during its annual media function on Tuesday evening.
TLU SA acknowledges that reporting is not always flawless and that differences of opinion on certain approaches may arise. For this reason, we wanted to use this opportunity to honour journalists who remain true to their calling – to produce honest, balanced, and accurate reports that positively impact communities.
The symbolism of the sunflower – clarity, truth, and hope – is a fitting emblem for this award. It reflects not only the values we strive for but also the perseverance of journalists like Carien and her fellow finalists, who make a significant impact through their work.
In addition to Carien Kruger, we would also like to recognise the following finalists for their valuable contributions:
- Nico van Burick
- Marizka Coetzer
- Mia Slabbert
- Glenneis Kriel
In a world where misunderstandings and inaccurate information are sometimes spread, journalists play a critical role in bringing the correct narrative to light. Their work is indispensable, especially in the agricultural sector, where reliable information is crucial for informed decision-making and sustainable practices.
The media function was an opportunity to express appreciation and reaffirm TLU SA’s commitment to supporting sustainable agricultural practices. We believe that growth and prosperity for South African farmers are achievable through faith, stewardship, and economic responsibility.
We thank everyone who supported the event and would like to once again congratulate Carien Kruger on receiving this special award. Your work serves as an inspiration, and we value your positive contribution to promoting agriculture and uplifting the community.
