TLU SA is finalising preparations for this year’s congress on 18 September 2019. Delegates will be hosted at the CSIR conference facilities.

Management is looking forward to the opportunity to mould the future of agriculture in these uncertain times, especially seen against the incredible growth of more than 1 850 new TLU SA members since January this year.

TLU SA will this year once again build on the principles which laid the foundation of the organisation.

“We are convinced that our tried and tested principles should be established and anchored, especially during difficult times,” says Mr Louis Meintjes, the President of TLU SA. “Agriculture – like the rest of the South African economy – is taking a beating thanks to the short-sighted statements and plans of the government. Increasingly, we realise that we cannot wait on the government to protect our future, but that we have to rely on ourselves to make plans.”

Delegates can look forward to highlights such as the annual Presidential speech, as well as speeches by various experts in their fields. The following themes will be discussed:

  • Practical utilisation of technology to promote sustainability in the agricultural sector Juanita Vorster: Change Specialist;
  • Overview of the South African economy with particular focus on the agricultural sector Ulrich Joubert: Independent Economist;
  • Farm for optimal profit Is it possible? Dr Philip Theunissen: Accountant and Agricultural Economist, COMPUTUS Management Bureau, CC; and
  • Retention of ownership as a basis for economic growth Terence Corrigan: Project Manager, SA Institute of Race Relations.

The day’s events will end with the annual dinner party where TLU SA will honour exceptional achievers and announce the Young Farmer of the year. TLU SA will make use of the opportunity to thank individuals and affiliations for their contribution to agriculture, specifically in terms of the organisation.

The congress will continue the next day with closed discussions between TLU SA members to formulate decisions to plan the following year’s strategy.

“The strategy and direction of TLU SA have been tested by the values and principles in the organisation’s Constitution and Manifest for 120 years,” says Mr Meintjes. “These values and principles are non-negotiable, and without it there is no future for farmers (big or small).

“TLU SA’s only goal is to support all farmers to farm without fear, to make a profitable living and to produce the food for consumer’s tables. That will always be our approach.”

The media is invited to attend the event. Attendance can be confirmed with Lynne on 012 804 8031 or
